Printing - Install Networked Printers for Mac (Not on Domain/personal computer)

Installing a new printer on an Apple (Mac) Computer.

This is the process for students and faculty/staff to install a printer on their personal computer.  It will only work when connected to the UWPlatt wireless network or campus wired network.

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Open Printers & Scanners
  3. Click Add Printer +
  4. Select Advance (You will likely need to add the "*Advance" button.  See Below)
  5. Type:  Windows printer via spoolss
  6. URL:  smb://
  7. Edit Name and Location
  8. Select Appropriate Driver or Use Generic Driver
You may have to add the Advanced button on your printer preferences.

How to add the *Advance Button for the steps above.
  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Open Printers & Scanners
  3. Select Add Printer
  4. Right-Click on Menu Bar (to the right of the Windows icon)
  5. Choose Customize Toolbar
  6. Drag the Advanced icon to the menu bar to the right of the Windows icon
  7. Click Done
