ITS Update: Windows 7 installation of Office 365 client to take effect July 29
Posted: 11:35:44, Friday, Jul 26, 2019 Expiration: 11:35:44, Friday, Aug 30, 2019
The Office 365 desktop client will be pushed to all remaining Windows 7 devices in the wee hours of Monday, Jul. 29. This implementation was moved back for Windows 7 devices to allow for anticipated computer purchases to arrive and be deployed.
As reported in May, testing of the Office 365 desktop client revealed a potential issue when installing on Windows 7. In some instances, the process removes the old Office applications but is unable to install Office 365 desktop client, leaving the device without Word, Excel, etc. ITS Help Desk staff can remedy the situation with an office visit.
If you log into your Windows 7 device after Monday’s installation and find you have no Office applications, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
Upgrading to Windows 10 is required by the end of the calendar year.
Upgrading your device to Windows 10 is necessary as Microsoft has decided to end support for Windows 7 in January 2020. To avoid unnecessary disruptions during the academic year, ITS strongly recommends requesting the upgrade prior to the start of term. Contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu to make that request.
