ITS Alert: Phishing attempt offers part-time job 04.30.20

Posted: 13:20:09, Thursday, Apr 30, 2020   Expiration: 13:20:09, Thursday, May 7, 2020

Today's phishing attempt claims to be a offering part-time employment as "Advertise While Driving". It appears to come from the campus account of "Jeffrey L Pustina" and asks you to contact a third party from McCann World group [SIC] at a gmail account using your personal email.

The same message has been sent under three different subjects:
  • GET PAID WHILE DRIVING
  • JOB OPPORTUNITY
  • PART-TIME JOB
While there is no active link in this message or an attachment, simply replying to a stranger at an unknown address can lead to trouble. NEVER respond or act on messages from people you do not know who are asking you to do things you are not expecting. Instead, contact the alleged source directly through other means to confirm the message. In this case, a quick Google of the alleged employer and contact person should be enough to make you question the validity of the offer--not to mention the healthy paycheck.
  • If you receive an email with one of the subjects listed above from "Jeffrey L Pustina", please DELETE.
  • If you receive this email from another sender OR using a different subject, please REPORT to the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
  • If you responded to the gmail address or replied to the email directly, please CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD immediately and contact the ITS Help Desk for further instruction.
