ITS Update: Department computer buy opens October 12 through 30

The Winter 2020 computer buy opens today, Oct. 12 and will remain open through Friday, Oct. 30.

Departments on all campuses must have orders to your IT Support Liaison by Friday, Oct. 30.  Specification sheets for available models and accessories—HP and Apple/iOS--are posted in the ITS Knowledge Base. Contact your liaison for prices.  

Your IT Support Liaison will provide a separate spreadsheet for Apple products. If you have questions, or would like a more customized Apple product outside of what is on the sheet, please contact Kris Kreul, kreulkr@uwplatt.edu for more information. 


NOTE: During these unprecedented times, the delivery timeline is dependent upon many factors out of ITS control.  Ideally, computers would arrive and be installed prior to Spring 2021; however, this cannot be guaranteed. We will keep departments up to date on the timeline as information becomes available throughout the fall term. 

 

Consider a laptop 

The sudden need to teach and work from home has highlighted the advantages of having a mobile computing device. Laptops and tablets:

  • are easily portable 
  • can be configured for VPN (seamless access to network resources) 
  • receive software updates remotely (through the VPN), AND 
  • you can continue to use the device you are accustomed to, if you need to work off campus 

 

If it is time to replace your desktop computer, please consider purchasing a laptop or tablet. Your ITS Support Liaison can assist you with this decision. 


IMPORTANT! Purchasing through Pioneer Restore is not allowed.

Departments may NOT purchase the items below from Pioneer Restore on the Platteville campus. ITS sends devices to the Restore when it is no longer cost-effective to support the items due to age or compatibility issues. Instead, departments must purchase these items through ITS.

  • Computer peripherals (keyboard, mouse, speakers, cables)

  • Sound equipment (amplifiers, sound boards, etc.) 
  • Projector screens 
  • Video cameras 
  • SMART boards
