ITS Alert: Phishing attempt claims to include paystub 06.14.21

The ITS Help Desk and Human Resources(HR) have received reports of a phishing attempt claiming to include a copy of the employee's pay stub dated June 10, 2021. Clicking the attachment opens a webpage where you are asked to login. This is not legitimate; do not login.

Why this message shouldn't make sense

The subject is Payroll Statement for Pay Period Ending 06-10-2021 and appears to come from two addresses very different addresses. HR does not send earning statements to employees; employees may download their earnings statements from MyUW at any time. Also, June 10, 2021 was a Thursday; bi-weekly pay periods end on Saturdays while monthly periods end on the last day of the given month.  The terminology is another clue; the University uses the term "Earning Statement" not "paystub" or "PayRoll Check".
