EMPLOYEES: Still time to register--Finding the Why: Seeing Yourself in Cyber

Posted: 07:30:55, Monday, Oct 17, 2022   Expiration: 13:00:00, Monday, Oct 17, 2022

You matter to cybersecurity. Why? As employees, our individual actions are key to reducing risk of data loss and keeping our students and their information safe.

In January 2021 Midland University in Nebraska (enrollment about 1600) suffered a devastating cyber-attack that left their university systems unavailable for up to several weeks. As a result of the attack, University data was encrypted, held hostage, and ransomed back for a large sum. The data of nearly 14,000 people was potentially exposed.

Join UW-Platteville's CIO Tony Hayes, Chief Data Officer John Dunning, and special guest speaker, CIO Shane Perrien of Midland University, who will recount his experience surviving that ransomware attack on his University. Discussion to follow.

Monday, Oct. 17 from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Virtual via Zoom
Session will be recorded for later viewing.

Employees may register until 2:00 p.m. today at https://go.uwplatt.edu/its-security-event
