ITS Update: Department computer buy EXTENDED to November 18

The Winter 2022 department computer buy has been extended until November 18 (formerly November 11).
Departments on all campuses must have orders to their IT Support Liaison by Friday, Nov. 18. Specification sheets for available models and accessories—HP and Apple/iOS—are posted to the ITS Knowledge Base at https://go.uwplatt.edu/computer-specs . Please contact your liaison for pricing. NOTE: To begin preparing for Microsoft’s end-of-support for Windows 10 in 2025, all new HP purchases from this buy forward will be equipped with the Windows 11 operating system. In-person training will be provided in Spring 2023 for those who are interested. You may also check out courses like “Windows 11 Essentials” in LinkedIn Learning at https://go.uwplatt.edu/linkedinlearning.
Due to the pandemic’s effect on global industry, the delivery timeline is dependent upon many factors out of ITS control. Electronic items are taking 16 or more weeks to arrive. If that holds true, deployment might not begin until late Spring or Summer 2023. ITS will begin deployment as soon as the equipment is ready.
Consider a laptop
There are distinct advantages to having a mobile computing device versus a desktop model. Laptops and tablets:
- are easily portable
- can be configured for VPN (seamless access to network resources)
- receive software updates remotely (through the VPN), AND
- you can continue to use the device you are accustomed to, even if you need to work off campus
If it is time to replace your desktop computer, please consider purchasing a laptop or tablet. Your ITS Support Liaison can assist you with this decision. EMS staff: Be sure to CC: email@example.com on all communications related to computer purchases.
IMPORTANT! Purchasing through Pioneer Restore is not allowed.
Departments may NOT purchase certain from Pioneer Restore on the Platteville campus. ITS sends devices to the Restore when it is no longer cost-effective to support the items due to age or compatibility issues. Instead, departments must purchase these items through ITS.
