ITS Maintenance Outage: Storage/SHARED1 down Dec 28
Posted: 08:53:00, Monday, Dec 28, 2015 Expiration: 11:31:52, Monday, Dec 28, 2015
SHARED1 will be offline from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28 as system admins continue the migration of network storage to new servers.
The new SHARED1 will come online with read-write access at 7:00 p.m. today*. Remedial migration will continue as long as necessary; targeted completion of the SHARED1 migration is 7:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan 4.
*NOTE: Most areas (WGroups, Photography, etc.) were copied to the new server within the last couple of weeks. Every day since then a system admin has been checking files on the old/current server for changes made after the initial migration. These changes were then copied to the new server; therefore, MOST files should be up-to-date and available at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28.
If you are concerned something may not be available in its most up-to-date version when you need it this week, we suggest saving copies from the shared drive to another location BEFORE the outage begins at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28. You can then upload your updated copy to SHARED1 after the migration is complete.
Changes in effect after the SHARED1 (S-drive) migration beginning December 28 at 7:00 p.m.*:
- Shortcuts to files on SHARED1 will need to be updated.
- Links embedded within files and processes between files, such as mail merge in Word using Excel data, may need to be updated as well.
- SHARED1 will be accessible via mobile device and from off-campus through Storage-on-the-Go at www.uwplatt.edu/go/storage or through a virtual desktop.
- Mac users will need to map the new drives; see instructions at https://kb.uwplatt.edu/page.php?id=30263.
*After December 28, if you are unable to access your data on the S-drive, please restart your computer. If issues persist, contact the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uwplatt.edu or 608.342.1400.
*After January 4, if it appears files are missing from your S-drive, it may be that your data is still being migrated. If you have concerns, please contact the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uwplatt.edu or 608.342.1400.
We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your patience. If you have questions regarding this outage, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
