ITS Update: Phishing attempt spoofs ITS Help Desk 05.17.16 - UPDATE

Posted: 12:59:31, Tuesday, May 17, 2016   Expiration: 12:59:31, Friday, May 20, 2016

The ITS Help Desk has received reports of a phishing message warning you that your account was accessed by an unknown IP address. You are then instructed to “click here” to verify your account.

UPDATE 3:21 PM - Thank you to all who reported this issue.  Going forward, if you receive this phishing attempt, please DELETE it. No report is necessary at this time.

Pioneers should remember that ITS will NEVER ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever. SERIOUSLY!

  • If you receive such an email, please REPORT IT to the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
  • If you do not have time to report the email, please DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY.
  • If you clicked on the link and logged in, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY and contact the ITS Help Desk.
How can I tell a message is not legit? We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt.

Also, as is our department policy, please note that all ITS communications will include contact information within the message, and most messages will be signed by a member of our staff.

If you have questions about phishing or how to report an suspicious email, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
