The ITS Help Desk has received numerous reports of a phishing message warning you that "Your Mail Box Has Exceeded it [sic] limit". You are then instructed to “CLICK HERE”. These messages appear to come from the UW-Platteville accounts of "Lisa Karau" or "Tre Gallegos". Thank you to all who reported this phishing attempt.
Pioneers should remember that ITS will NEVER ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever. SERIOUSLY!
- If you receive such a message from"Lisa Karau" or "Tre Gallegos" , please DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY.
- If you receive such a message from ANYONE ELSE , please REPORT IT to the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400.
- If you clicked on the link and logged in, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY and contact the ITS Help Desk.
How can I tell the message a message is not legit?
We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt. Also, as is our department policy, please note that all ITS communications will include contact information within the message, and most messages will be signed by a member of our staff.
If you have questions about phishing or how to report a suspicious message, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or email@example.com.
