ITS Update: Phishing attempt claims your account has been accessed from unknown ID

The ITS Help Desk has received reports of a phishing message warning you that your account was "LOGIN [sic] today by Unknown IP address". You are then instructed to "CLICK LINK BELOW" to verify your email account. This message appears to come from uwplatt account holders "Dana Dahms" or "Dalton L Sheffler".

Pioneers should remember that ITS will NEVER ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever. SERIOUSLY.

  • If you receive such an email from "Dana Dahms" or "Dalton L. Sheffler", please DELETEimmediately.
  • If you receive such a message from any other sender, please REPORT it to the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
  • If you clicked on the link and logged in, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY.

How can I tell whether a message is not legit? We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt.

If you have questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.  You may also visit the Help Desk on the first floor of the Karrmann Library.
