ITS Alert: Phishing attempt threatens to close your account 10.18.16

Posted: 13:37:36, Tuesday, Oct 18, 2016   Expiration: 13:37:36, Tuesday, Oct 25, 2016

The ITS Help Desk has received numerous reports of a phishing message that claims your account has been compromised and will be closed if you do not verify your account. You are asked to "click here to confirm your account". The subject is "Dear Subscriber", and the message appears to come from UW-Platteville account of "Abdulkarim Alrabghi".

Pioneers should remember that ITS will NEVER ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever. SERIOUSLY.

  • If you receive such a message from "Abdulkarim Alrabghi", please DELETE.  There is no need to report.
  • If you receive a similar message from anyone other than "Abdulkarim Alrabghi", please REPORT DIRECTLY to the ITS HELP DESK at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
  • If you responded to the email, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY and contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.

How can I tell if a message is not legit?

We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt.

If you have questions about this attempt, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
