The ITS Help Desk has received reports of a phishing message claiming that your account has been restricted due to unauthorized "sign-in your account [sic] from a new computer". You are then instructed to CLICK HERE to log in and "re-validate your mailbox". The message appears to come from the campus account of "Madison L. Hans".

Pioneers should remember that ITS will never ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever.  SERIOUSLY!

  • If you receive such an email from "Madison L. Hans", please DELETE immediately.
  • If you receive such an email from another sender, please NOTIFY the ITS Help Desk.
  • If you clicked on the link and logged in, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY and contact the ITS Help Desk.

How can I tell if a message is not legit? We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt.

If you have questions about this phishing attempt, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
