The ITS Help Desk has received reports of a phishing message claiming "your e-mail account was LOGIN [sic] by Unknown IP address". You are then instructed to CLICK HERE to validate the account. The message appears to come from the campus account of “Kyle Crawford” and leads to a login page with UW-Platteville image and logo. It even mentions the ITS Help Desk by name and contact information.
BOTTOM LINE: Pioneers should remember that ITS will NEVER ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever. SERIOUSLY.
- If you receive such an email from "Kyle Crawford", please DELETE immediately.
- If you receive such an email from another sender, please NOTIFY the ITS Help Desk.
- If you clicked on the link and logged in, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY and contact the ITS Help Desk.
How can I tell if a message is not legit?
We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt. .
If you have questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also visit the Help Desk on the first floor of the Karrmann Library.
