The ITS Help Desk has received over 100 reports and counting of a phishing messages claiming your account may be restricted because "An Attempt" was made "to sign-in [sic] your account from a new computer". You are then instructed to "CLICK HERE to Verify". The message appears to come from the campus accounts of either “Ming Li” or "Courtney N. Swalve". The subject is EMERGENCY.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to report these messages. Always remember that ITS will NEVER ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever. SERIOUSLY.
  • If you receive such an email from “Ming Li” or "Courtney N. Swalve", please DELETE immediately.
  • If you receive such an email from another sender, please NOTIFY the ITS Help Desk.
  • If you clicked on the link and logged in, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY and contact the ITS Help Desk.

How can I tell if a message is not legit?

We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt.

If you have questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
