The ITS Help Desk has received reports of a phishing message claiming to be from Chancellor Shields with an email address of officialbox11@daum.net. The message is titled "STAFFS AND EMPLOYEES STRATEGIC PLANS UPDATE" and contains a PDF with a link to "Microsoft PDF Reader". Clicking the link takes you to a login screen.

Pioneers should remember that ITS will NEVER ask for your password in an email - or through a link from an email. Never, ever.  SERIOUSLY.

  • If you receive such an email from "Chancellor Shields", please DELETE immediately.
  • If you receive such an email from another sender or email address, please NOTIFY the ITS Help Desk.
  • If you clicked on the link in the attachment, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY and contact the ITS Help Desk.

How can I tell if a message is not legit? We've mocked up real-life examples in the ITS Knowledge Base, including today's attempt.

If you have questions about this phishing attempt, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.642.1400 or helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
