Video: MyMedia Streaming and Storage
Information on streaming and storage within MyMedia
Intended Video Streaming and Storage Use
MyMedia by Kaltura and Mediasite by Sonic Foundry are UW-Platteville supported services available for the hosting and delivery of video files by faculty, staff, and students for UW-Platteville-related purposes. Both solutions are similar, but provide benefits for varying uses. See the comparison chart below for more information.
UW-Platteville does not routinely pre-screen, monitor, or regularly review posted content and associated data, yet reserves the right to remove, at any time, at its sole discretion, any content that it considers to violate the provisions of any other campus policies that may govern use of the campus networks, or that it deems in violation of a University policy or local, state, or federal law.
Content can be delivered to audiences outside UW-System, these services are not meant for viral videos that receive tens of thousands of hits. Please consider using an alternate video platform if your intention is to create a viral video. If a media item has “gone viral”, an alternative delivery platform may need to be considered based on the amount of traffic it is generating.
How much storage is available to me?
While currently there are no formal storage or bandwidth quotas, users are encouraged to be mindful about the amount of media uploaded. As a best practice, please regularly review your content and remove media that is no longer needed.
How long can I host my Media?
Currently, it is the responsibility of each user to monitor the active usage of their media and remove media that is no longer being actively viewed or used.
What happens to my media when I leave UW-Platteville?
If you are leaving the university, please delete media that is no longer needed. If you would like to have ownership of your media transferred to another user, please contact the ITS HelpDesk for assistance.
Should I caption my video?
Yes, All non-text elements shared on the web inluding audio and video need to have a text equivalent. If the materials are used in conjunction with a course, captions are recommended. Contact ICET for more infomation.
