Rules for dialing from a campus telephone
When dialing from a Cisco phone, dial 8 for all off-campus calls except 9-1-1.
Local calls beginning with: 608-342 | Dial 8 then 7-digit number (8-xxx-xxxx) |
Long distance | Dial 8-1 then 10-digit number (8-1-xxx-xxx-xxxx) NOTE: In the new system, you MUST dial 1 for long distance. |
Toll-free | Dial 8-1 then 10-digit number (8-1-xxx-xxx-xxxx) |
International | Dial 8 then 011 (international access) followed by the country code, city code and local number (8-011-xx-xx-local number) |
There is also the option to use "Plus dialing". Plus dialing can be used for local or long distance calls. To dial using this method:
- Hold down the "*" key on the phone until you see it change to a "+"
- Dial country code (1 for US) followed by the area code, city code, and local number. For US numbers +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx
For emergencies in either system, dial 9-1-1*
*Exception: Dial 9-9-1-1 from analog phones for an outside line, e.g. courtesy phones, Resident Director phones, fax machines.
