Tips - Spring Cleaning your Digital Homes

Spring is traditionally a time for clearing out the cobwebs, airing out our homes, and getting rid of clutter. Spring-clean your electronic devices and files with these helpful tips.

For desktop/laptop: Empty your desktop Recycle Bin to free up space on your hard drive.  Items in your computer’s Recycle bin stay there until you empty it.  Right click on the icon and select “Empty Recycle Bin.”

For browser:  Your internet browser's cache stores certain information about webpages you visit so that they'll load more quickly in the future.  Ironically, the fuller the cache, the slower your connections can become.  Pages may not load completely (i.e. missing links or buttons).  Clearing the cache can help.
  • To clear the cache in Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Chrome, open the browser and select CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE.  A box will appear.  If you choose to save passwords in your browser, uncheck the related password item, then click "OK."
  • To clear the cache in Safari, open the browser and go to Preferences > Advanced > Show Develop menu in menu bar.  Check Develop menu > Empty Caches.
