Storage - Connection Failed Mavericks OSX 10.9.2

When navigating through the Finder sidebar in the Shared Items section, clicking on a CIFS Share results in a connection failed error.

This is caused by a bug in OSX Mavericks.  The Information Technology Services Help Desk recommends the following method to browse network storage locations.

  1. Open the Finder Preferences

  2. In the "General" tab, make sure all devices are checked to be shown on the desktop.  This allows for easy browsing to the network shares from the desktop.

  3. In the "Sidebar" tab, uncheck all items in the "Shared Items" section and check all the items in the "Devices Items" section.  This allows for easy browsing from within the Finder.

  4. When browsing in the Finder, clicking on your computer name will display the Mac HD as well as any attached network shares.  This allows for browsing in "Save" and "Save As" dialogs as well.
