D2L: Restrictions and Conditions - Special Access

VERSION 10.1 OR HIGHER

Restrictions and conditions can be set to manage how students access content, news, dropboxes and discussions in Desire2Learn. Special access allows an instructor to provide alternative content or time limits to individual users or groups of users to accommodate special needs. These restrictions can be added to quizzes, surveys or dropboxes.

REQUIRED:
  • Instructor access to a Desire2Learn Course.
  • Quiz, survey or dropbox already created.
STEPS TO FOLLOW:
Note: See steps to set-up special access for Quiz and Survey below.
  1. Log into Desire2Learn.
  2. Select a course.
  3. Click the Dropbox tab in the Navigation menu. 
  4. To change restrictions and conditions for a topic, click on the dropdown arrow next to the topic name.
  5. Select Edit Properties.
  6. Click on the Restrictions tab.

  1. Select the radio button to allow users with special access to submit files outside normal availability dates OR to see the folder at all.
  2. Click the Add Users to Special Access button.
Note: If due date restrictions have been set for the entire class (under the restrictions tab) they are null and void for a student selected in Special Access. Date restrictions under Special Access must be used to manage access for that student.

  1. On the Special Access page, select the Date Availability you want special access users to have.
  2. Use the View By option and Search For field to locate the users you want to give special access to.
  3. Select the check box beside each appropriate user's name.
  4. Click Save.

Note: Once you have added special access permissions for users, they are listed in the Special Access section. Users' special access can be edited or deleted by clicking the   Edit pencil_icon.PNG  or Remove x_icon.png icon beside their names.

STEPS TO FOLLOW For quiz/survey
Note: See steps to set-up special access for Quiz and Survey below.
  1. Log into Desire2Learn.
  2. Select a course.
  3. Click the More tab in the Navigation menu. 
  4. Select Quizzes (or Surveys).
  5. Click the name of the Quiz or Survey.

  1. Select the radio button to allow selected users special access  OR to allow only users with special access to see survey/quiz.
  2. Click the Add Users to Special Access button.
