Examples of ways to identify a spear phishing attempt

How can I tell if a message is legit?

Be suspicious if ANY of these clues appear....

Part 1: The message

1. Appears to come from a trusted university source but does not have a uwplatt address
2. Hovering over the link reveals -- again -- it is not a uwplatt address
3. No subject
4. Brief message with a sense of urgency
5. Incomplete and/or unusual signature

Example of spear phishing attempt spoofing Dean Molly Gribb
