Instructions on adding captions to a video in a PowerPoint.

Add Captions to a Video in PowerPoint

1. Find the selected PowerPoint file and original mp4 file that needs captioning.

2. Log in to Canvas.

3. From the homepage in Canvas, click on the Account icon in the Navigation Bar.

4. Then, click My Media.

5. On the My Media page, select the Add new button with drop down menu.

6. Click the Media Upload option.

7. Check the box to agree to the terms and conditions.

8. In the large box, browse or drag and drop the mp4 file to the page.

9. Next, complete the required information in the text boxes below.


10. When finished, click Save.

11. Once the file is saved, return to the My Media page.

12. For information on how to caption a video, review the Canvas - Captioning Video article.

12. Once captioning is complete, in the My Media page, select the pencil icon of the desired video.


12. Scroll down below the video and click the Captions tab.


13. Under the Actions area, select the download icon to download the captions.

14. This file will download as an SRT file.
Note: Convert the SRT file to VTT. Acquire, download and install an online converter.


15. Once installed, select the file and target format (e.g. VTT).


16. Click start conversion.

17. When the conversion is complete, save the output.

18. Open the PowerPoint with the desired video.
Note: If the video has not been added to the PowerPoint do so now.

19. Select the video and click the Playback tab at the top.

20. Select Insert Captions.

21. Navigate to the VTT file and insert.
