Respondus – How do I set up and use Respondus LockDown Browser to take Canvas Quizzes? (Student)
Getting Started
In some courses, you may be required to use the webcam with the LockDown Browser. The webcam feature is referred to as "Respondus Monitor". The Monitor requires you to have a webcam that records audio. You will have to go through a series of tests to confirm your device is properly set up before starting your quiz.
- All quizzes for which your instructor requires the LockDown Browser to be used are designated with the “Requires Respondus LockDown Browser” or “Requires Respondus LockDown Browser + Webcam” notation in the quiz title.
- If your instructor requires the LockDown Browser, you will not be able to take the quiz using a standard web browser such as Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc. Using the Respondus LockDown Browser will be the only way to complete a Quiz where the LockDown Browser requirement is noted.
- CAUTION: You must have a Windows or a Mac device to use the RLDB. A beta release of a Chromebook extension is currently available, although with some limitations.

How do I set-up/install the LockDown Browser on a personal computer?
- Download and install the latest version of the Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor to your device. You will need to have admin rights for your personal computer to install.
- From the download page, you can confirm system requirements and make your installation selection between the Windows or Mac version of the LDB application. The application is approximately 4 MB and you will only need to install it one time.
- Once the installation begins, the install is quick and simple. Follow the on-screen directions in the installer to complete the installation.
- Once complete, you should see a shortcut on your desktop, and an icon in your Programs menu / App folder

Caution: Once you have started a quiz, you may not be able to exit the quiz until you have submitted it for grading.

If your instructor has not provided a practice quiz in the Canvas course, you can self enroll in this Canvas course,which contains two different practice quizzes. Each quiz has different settings, and they will be available for the entire semester with unlimited attempts.
